Honestly being attached to a favorite doll or action figure is kind of over rated. It is important to throw away your child’s favorite toy, because if they get attached to inanimate objects early on, then it is possible they might learn how to form a lasting relationship as an adult, and let’s remember bad parenting has to be a cycle, so it started with your parents and really depends on you messing up your child in order for this thing to work. Now depending on your level of comfort with conflict you may decide to throw it out in front of the child or while they are at school. But the important factor is letting the child know you purposely threw the toy away, don’t chicken out and pretend that the monster under the bed took it, own up to you malicious actions. When the child say’s “I can’t find my Princess Ballerina Barbie, my favorite toy ever.” It is important look your child in the eyes with the same look they give you when they did something completely wrong and say, “I know that toy was your favorite, so I threw it out.”
Ha Ha!
Maybe if parents showed initiative and modeled good behavior, like throwing out trash and whatnot, their children would pick up that desired behavior, like Pavlov. Maybe if they learned that they can’t have everything they want and/or are entitlted to have someone cater to their bull sh*t for the durtation of their lives, then they would be much better human beings.
Otherwise, this is what happens: no regard for …. anything.

@eatone, yes I agree parents need to model good behavior…..
SPOT ON. MESSING UP PARENTING IS KIND OF HEREDITARY . BUT IT LOSES ITS STEAM AS IT COMES DOWN THE FAMILY LADDER . GREAT GRAND FATHER IN THE SAME SITUATION WOULD HAVE THROWN THE FAV TOY IN THE FACE OF THE TOY OWNER INSTEAD OF SLYLY THROWING IT AWAY AND INVENTING C AND B ( COCK AND BULL) STORIES ABOUT MONSTER. TO THE MODERN CHILD THE PARENTS, PARTICULARLY THE FATHERS ,ARE THE MONSTERS.
