Parenting Tip # 28 Discussing Divorce with your Child

images-10

Divorce can be tough on a kid. Mommy is usually crying because she found out Daddy wasn’t really staying late after work. When discussing with your child the fact that you are leaving the house forever, and will see them every other weekend, but only if you feel like it, you need to make sure the child understands their role in this issue. Tell your child, “Look when I meet your mom she was really fun, we use to like each other, then you came along and kind of messed her up, now daddy is seeing someone the same age mommy was the last time she was fun.” Then flip their hat back in a cute way, give them a fake smile that might reassure them and say, “Hey the good news is you get double the presents on Christmas. If I’m in town.”
